Earth-friendly beauty

Monday, 20 May 2013

It's time to update my makeup brush collection and what better brand to invest in than earth-friendly EcoTools.
EcoTools products are created around an earth-friendly beauty ethos and made with soft cruelty free bristles, aluminium ferrules and sleek bamboo handles.
Making eco friendly choices in my beauty routine has worked wonders on my skin, all thanks to Juliette Scarfe my very own skin doctor (check out- www.bareskin-beauty.co.uk). This truly wonderful and knowledgeable woman has hugely inspired me to make real conscious decisions about exactly what I'm feeding my skin with. EcoTools is my eco friendly beauty tool brand that I'm more than proud to be using.

Fresh and Flawless complexion set
These conveniently sized brushes are designed to be used together to create a flawless complexion. From hiding imperfections to building an airbrushed and matte finished face this cute collection of brushes caters for each area of the face.
I've made it my mission to stop using my fingers to apply concealer and start religiously using my EcoTools flat concealer brush to camouflage blemishes and even my skin tone all ready for my foundation base. It's way more hygienic than using my fingers and creates a more perfected complexion.

Foam Foundation Applicator
I've been especially excited to try EcoTools newest launch, foam foundation applicator!
Perfect for a flawless, airbrushed finish when applying liquid foundation. What I love most about this makeup tool is how the sponge is shaped, the pointed top and flat side makes it so easy to apply the foundation to the contours of your face, ensuring every area is evenly covered.
I've used sponges and brushes before but the difference is it has the quality of being on a stick like a foundation brush, (giving you full control) but the flawless finish that in my experience only a sponge can create. The unique shape of the sponge sets this makeup tool apart from anything I've previously used- highly recommend giving it a try!

Multi-purpose Miracle Balm

Sunday, 19 May 2013

La Roche- Posay Cicaplast B5 is a multi-purpose repairing balm that soothes, protects, heals and repairs any kind of skin irritation and is even sensitive enough to use on babies super delicate skin, proving just how   gentle the formula is.

As some of you may know I've always been utterly obsessed with Germolene! For as long as I can remember its been my answer to any skin issue, including spots, cuts, sores and minor injuries and I would hate to shine a bad light on my prized product of the century but now I've discovered Cicaplast B5 I might just be putting the germolene ointment away. Reason being this tube of multi-purpose qualities, not only comes in a handy 40ml size tube making it the perfect size to pop in your makeup bag or toiletry bag as an essential,  but the texture and consistency of this product makes it ideal to apply at any time of the day (in comparison to Germolene's rather strong scented and pink cloured cream). I've been using it on my severely chapped lips over the last few days and the flaky skin around my nose after the awful cold I've just recovered from and I'm singing it's praises!
La Roche- Posay Cicaplast B5 is a nourishing non perfumed, paraben free and lanolin free miracle repairing balm that can be used on chapped lips, extremely dry/cracked skin, sun burn, minor injuries, eczema even nappy rash (perfect mother and baby essential) and basically can be used for any skin flare ups or irritations. I even tried this on my little 11 year old brother as he's been complaining of dry cracked skin on his elbows and after 2 applications its already make a huge difference! So it even has an 11 year old's approval!

All in all this is true miracle product and one that we should all have in bathroom cupboards or suitcases when we go away this summer- you just never know when you will need it!

New kids on the block!

Thursday, 9 May 2013

AlexandAlexa is an online fashion label dedicated to children's luxury fashion and named by The Independent UK as the Net-a-porter for under 14 year olds. I can hear you all asking why on earth I've decided to write a blog post about it but I feel we all focus so much on whats happening in the fashion industry we forget that the childens fashion industry is growing at a CRAZY speed.

It's outstanding to learn that the luxury childrenswear market is worth over £500 Million in the UK alone and with young models such as Romeo Beckham already making a great name for themselves it's only a matter of time before kids will have their own Fashion Week!

The very first Global Kids Fashion Week was launched by AlexandAlexa in March this year and showcased top designers A/W clothes. The idea behind it was to inspire and educate people about children's fashion celebrating how kids fashion has so rapidly thrived and evolved over the years.

Here's my 'If I was a kid again' AlexandAlexa Wish List....

I J'adore this super cute Bloch tutu!

This Roberto Cavalli floral printed top is so on trend this summer
Dolce & Gabbana pretty cream dress is fit for a princess!

It's all about the hair accessories with this Monnalisa bow hairband

These Ralph Lauren Baby pink high top trainers are adorable!

Bronzed Goddess

Wednesday, 8 May 2013

I've just got back from a lovely morning sunbathing at the beach and it's totally inspired me to write my 'Bronzed Goddess' article reviewing the best bronzers on the market right now... I've done the leg work so to speak in that I've tried and tested a range of different bronzers over the past month or so and picked my best of the best bronzers...

Clarins Splendours Summer Bronzing compact
Right, First things first...how beautiful is this compact?! Alot bigger than I expected it to be, which is great as it will last longer and has a big enough surface area to sweep your brush around the compact and use to define your collar bone and chest.
This bronzing compact includes a warming combination of harmonising and softening tones to create a naturally tanned complexion without the orange pigment!

Bobbi Brown's Bronze Shimmer Brick
This award winning bronzing shimmer brick is now a staple in my essential makeup kit, I love its contouring qualities and its subtle summer shimmer, highlighting your cheeks in all the right places. This shimmering brush on bronzing powder is perfect for defining your face and used in the correct way can make a drastic difference to the overall definition of your face (I was given a contouring lesson by my good friend and personal make up artist Harriet Lawman- www.harrietlawman.com). The great thing about this brick is you that due to the five bars of luminous shades you can actually use it as eyeshadow brick too! I love multipurpose beauty products!

Chanel's Sheer Illuminating Bronzing Fluid
Soleil Tan De Chanel is a hydrating and seductively sheer bronzing fluid that creates an illuminated and tanned effect to your complexion, giving it that natural sun kissed complexion that can only usually be imitated by the sunshine, Chanel has taken this challenge on and massively succeeded  I love this product and now the sun is out I've been using it everyday! It can be used underneath foundation, on top of foundation and even mixed into your foundation- it's incredibly easy to work with and so subtle looking.

Bronzing Brushes
My two new favourite brushes worth mentioning right now is Chanel's Kabuki Retractable brush (perfect to keep in your handbag for a midday complexion refresh) and Clarins 'The Brush' both can be used to apply face powders, blushers and bronzers. I love the Clarins brush to keep at home when doing my makeup for the day and my Chanel brush now lives in my handbag to rescue me during my travels!

This Week I'm in LOVE with...

Monday, 6 May 2013

Since this stunning fragrance by Maison Francis Kurkdjian landed in my palms and insisted on caressing my neck with it's overwhelmingly seductive scent, I literally have not stopped wearing it....

Amyris, launched as a fragrance duo for both men and women is a carefully captured scent secured beautifully inside a square Parisian roof top inspired bottle, so pretty you're dressing table craves it's presence.
Amyris is made of an enchanting cocktail of Florentine iris and a resin derived from amyris, a flowering Jamaican tree often referred to as 'torchwood' due to its flammability.

The reason I think I feel so drawn to this special fragrance is that I am naturally attracted to strong musky scents, but Amyris combines this muskiness so gracefully and perfectly with iris that it makes for a scent like no other, a scent to addictive you can't quite get enough of it...
Given the events of the past week it's timing seems to be impeccable. Amyris is a strong enough fragrance to resemble a special time and moment in my life that no matter how it turns out or what happens next it will remain a fragrance to be cherished regardless.

Great Jeans, Not Great Genes! By Guest Blogger Allie Redmond

While “shake what yo mama gave ya” might not be the most profound saying in the world, it’s message of being proud of your body is one that all women should listen to.
Battered about the head by the air-brushed faces of celebrities whose unwavering blank stare makes our wobbly thighs quake, leaping about in adverts that get you reaching for the ice-cream, it can be difficult to accept you’re beautiful when held up against an ideal that’s unreal.
You look in the mirror and think my hips are too big, too small, my arms are too fat, too thin… and the fact that you have one gigantic boob is all too obvious. Wrong. It’s not your body that’s the problem, it’s your clothes.
It’s time to embrace your body in all of its dimpled, out of proportion, curvy, boyish, whatever glory. I encourage you to get out there and shake what your mother, and father, gave you. Just make sure you’re doing it in the right jeans for your genes.
Accept It, Then Love It.
Whatever body you’ve ended up with – a raging metabolism that won’t let you put on weight or curves that you can’t shift – you’re stuck with it.
The sooner you learn to accept your proportions, the quicker you can stop trying to shoehorn yourself into that leather catsuit and start to show off your best bits with the right clothes for you.
Take a Good Look in the Mirror.
Before you can make your wardrobe work for you, you need to get to grips with the reality of your shape. Look in the mirror and don’t criticise but assess.
Are your shoulders wider than your hips (inverted triangle)? Do you collect weight around your middle (apple) or does it stick to your hips and bum (pear)? Do you have a defined waist that curves in from your shoulders and hips (hourglass) or are you slender without a curve in sight (boyish)? Whatever you look like there will be clothes that take away from your natural beauty and styles that make you look stunning.
Different people use different names but as long as you know your shape you’ll be able to start treating it like it deserves, with the right clothes to show off your frame.
If you’re still not sure there’re sites like shopyourshape.com that have a handy calculator that can help.
Dress for Your Shape.
Once you’ve made friends with your body, told each other your secrets and had a pillow fight, you’re ready to choose clothes.
There’s loads of advice on what styles to pick, from jackets and skirts to dresses and accessories, that will show off, create or hide your different curves.
Sheknows.com have a great collection of links that will help you discover what’s suitable for your shape, while I simply love this handy flowchart that helps you find out your shape and then what clothes it needs.

Not everyone can make a maxi dress look good, or rock their curves in a pencil skirt, but whatever your shape there’s a style that will transform your whole look, accentuating the good bits and hiding your weaknesses.
Do you have any hints and tips on how best to dress for your shape, and what to stay away from? Share your comments below.

This week I'm in LOVE with....

Monday, 29 April 2013

Each week I'll be picking a product I'm absolutely in love with, this week it just had to be this wonderful Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks by Bobbi Brown.

This multi-tasking cream injects the prettiest pop of colour to your cheeks, making you look alive and fresh- exactly what we want this spring/ summer. I've been using it to blot onto my lips too for a soft and natural stained lip colour that lasts, ideal for neutral English rose complexions.
